How does Yellow Dog Inventory store data?

All data is stored in a single SQL Server database on a single server. All workstations connect to this server. More information is here.

How is the Yellow Dog Inventory database created?

After Yellow Dog Inventory is installed, an application within the Yellow Dog Inventory folder, named CreateYdiDatabase, creates the database, a dedicated SQL login, and creates a reference file used by the Yellow Dog Inventory client to identify the database server, name, and login information.

What happens if Yellow Dog Inventory's database server is unavailable?

Yellow Dog Inventory and any configured Syncs stop working. The Yellow Dog Inventory client will attempt to connect to the server, but this will result in either error messages or a request for a new server name.
