Yellow Dog Database Server Migration Process

•In SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), right click on the yellowdoginventory database, and click properties. On the bottom it will say Collation. The value will be something like

•SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS

•On the NEW server, open System Databases, and right click on tempdb. It must be identical. Close-enough is not close enough.

•Install SQL with Configuration Management Tool – if not already done – match Collation

•Disable all syncs and scheduled tasks on old server

•Backup the YD database on old server

•Move the Backup to the new server where SQL has been installed

•Restore the database on the new server

•Take the database offline on the old server

•Point all syncs to new DB server

•On the New Server:

•Open the Pipes in SQL Configuration Management

•Open the TCP/IP Ports for 1433 and Enable all of them

•Create Firewall Exceptions for Port 1433

•Update the Settings.ini file in the YellowDogInventory folder to use the new IP or Server Name

•Remove the user account YellowDogInventory from the DB

•Create the login YellowDogInventory account name and password

•Assign the YellowDogInventory login account to be DB owner of the restored YD DB

•Test the Yellow Dog Inventory program connection to the database from the app server

•Reschedule any/all remaining tasks
